The American appetite for meat — which is 4 times the global average — is eating away at wild habitat, water and even our climate. Yet while other governments have taken specific steps to recommend diets lower in meat and dairy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture continues to cater to the livestock industry, leaving sustainability out of important policy conversations like our national dietary guidelines.
Think about it: Americans eat 50 billion pounds of meat a year, yet our farms don’t even produce enough fruits and vegetables to meet the 2.5 cups a day recommended in the national dietary guidelines. Something is wrong with this picture.
It’s time for the USDA to create a plan to address the urgent need for Americans to reduce meat and dairy consumption and eat a healthy, sustainable diet. National guidelines on diets have enormous influence on how people eat, including in schools and government facilities.
Join us in urging the USDA to issue a public statement and plan of action to promote a sustainable American diet.

Kitten season has kicked into full gear and abandoned babies, frequently just born and with their umbilical cords still attached, are literally everywhere.
Irresponsible cat owners here feel that spaying/neutering is cruel, but I guess separating the youngsters from their nursing mothers and leaving them next to a trash can to fend for themselves when they aren’t even able to eat alone (or throwing them inside the waste container) isn’t cruel at all.
Of course, it’s impossible to know who the mother cats belong to, but it’s also highly improbable that a stray cat would pack her kittens into a carrying bag or a box and leave them in a dumpster. Year after year the same thing happens and year after year the overall situation is getting worse.
Although almost all animal rescuers are already getting hoarse from repeating that spay/neuter surgery is necessary for pets, far too many cats and dogs end up on the street and the animal shelters are overflowing with all of the new arrivals.
OK, rant over. These six babies were left in a cardboard box in front of the mall when they were maybe 10 days old. Two of them hadn’t even opened their eyes yet because their eyelids were glued shut with pus. They have been hand raised and bottle fed for a month now, as they were not progressing the way they should; moreover, all of them had a chlamydia infection and ringworm. Just great. Five of them finally pulled through and began to eat on their own, but the tiniest one, a little black girlie with a white tip to her tail, who had been the smallest and weakest from the very beginning, seemed to be dying a week ago. She had been given strong antibiotics for days and then the UV scan showed that her liver and stomach were enlarged, so more drugs (vitamins and hepatoprotectives) were added to her daily therapy.
She needed around the clock care, her chances were slim to none, but she didn’t want to die and she definitely wasn’t ready to give up. Bone skinny, feeble and frail, she valiantly fought for her life with every ounce of her fragile strength and she’s made it! Boy… that was close.
To our great joy, she doesn’t need to be fed with a syringe anymore, she eats on her own and even though she is at least two times smaller than any of her siblings, she is very serious about growing big. The little black girl already has a sponsor, our dear friend Kim, who named her Phoenix, as she defeated death by a hair’s breadth and sprang back to life.

An diesem Tag wird für jeden Affen in der Gefangenschaft des MPI eine unterschiedliche Aktion stattfinden. Werde Teil dieser ganz anderen Großdemo an ca 20 Orten überall in Tübingen. Jedes Aktionsteam vertritt ein noch in Gefangenschaft sitzendes MPI Opfer. So wird man uns nirgens ignorieren können!

Am 11.06.2016 wird vor dem berüchtigten Schweinehochhaus eine Demo/Kundgebung zur Schließung dieser Tierqualstätte stattfinden.
Im Vorfeld läuten wir die Aktionswochen ein, indem sich unser Bundesvorsitzender Horst Wester am 27.05.2016 zu Fuß auf den Weg von Bayern nach Maasdorf macht.
Während dieser Zeit bitten wir alle Organisationen, sich nach ihren Möglichkeiten und Ermessen an den bundesweiten Aktionswochen zu beteiligen, beispielsweise mit eigenen Veranstaltungen gegen die Massentierhaltung, Infoständen ,Unterstützung vor Ort, o.ä.
Für ausführliche Informationen und Anregungen für Aktionen habe ich unseren Handzettel beigefügt, der natürlich gern ausgedruckt und verbreitet, bei Bedarf zum Verteilen auch in kleinen Mengen bei uns bestellt werden kann.
Bei Rückfragen stehe ich gern per Email oder telefonisch zur Verfügung.
Oberstes Ziel dieser Aktion muss sein, dem Bürger und den politischen Vertretern den gemeinschaftlichen Protest gegen das Schweinehochhaus und die grausame Intensiv-Tierhaltung noch deutlicher vor Augen zu führen!
Dafür müssen wir Einigkeit und Zusammenhalt zeigen.

Well the USFWS really seem to be going for the kill, literally at the moment. Time for Americans to wake up and do something to stop it all. Will it happen ?- the world is watching.
Tell USFWS to STOP Drowning Wolves on Federal Refuges! 60 Confirmed Mortalities (Deaths) and Counting!! Congressman Walter Jones must HALT taxpayer dollars used to fund “Steel Leg-Hold Traps” and deliberately “Flooding” Ideal Red Wolf Habitat! $5M of Taxpayer funds have been Drowning Wolves for far too long! Section 7, A) 1. Whereas the USFWS must extend every option in its effort to protect endangered species (Red Wolf). 1) – Specifically, we hereby requesting you exercise the power bestowed upon you as acting Secretary of the Department of Interior which is granted under Section 8 as outlined below and immediately “Suspend” the ongoing Illegal Rehydration (Flooding) efforts on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and any other federally owned and managed lands within the 5 County Red Wolf Recovery Area. In the most simplistic terms, the USFWS Refuge has purposely degraded and adversely modified (flooded) the Endangered Red Wolfs previously stated “Ideal” habitat. This costly effort has prevented the Endangered Red Wolf its opportunity to 1) Feed 2) Breed and 3) Shelter due to deliberately flooding it’s ideal federal refuge habitat. USFWS mortality data illustrates 94% of ALL Dead Red Wolves occurred by “Illegally” flooding federal lands causing “Upland Movement of Species” (FWS document), thus leaving no question as to the deliberate flooding efforts by the Refuge are the # 1 driver of Red Wolf Mortality in the entire 5 County Area. National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997 Section 8 – STATE AUTHORITY; WATER RIGHTS; COORDINATION. (a) IN GENERAL- Section 4 (16 U.S.C. 668dd) is further amended by adding at the end the following new subsections: `(k) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, the Secretary may temporarily suspend, allow, or initiate any activity in a refuge in the System if the Secretary determines it is necessary to protect the health and safety of the public or any fish or wildlife population. Tell Congressman Walter Jones whom has long supported this USFWS Experimental program founded on “Killing Litters of Nursing Puppies” it must STOP and DEMAND he DEFUND this “Nursing Puppy Killing Scheme” as its your TAX Dollars he’s paying for it with!!
Federal Grant benefactor the Red Wolf Coalition has most recently sued in federal court, demanding the USFWS resume they’re recently halted experimental, Adaptive Puppy Killing Plan. Adaptive Management is founded in the use of Steel Leg-Hold Traps on YOUR Federal Refuge lands to trap and sterilize coyotes and hybrids as well as the despicable practice of “Den Hunting” to locate, litters of Newborn Nursing Puppies then KILLED by Hammering their tender heads. Likely some puppies never know whats about to hit them, given their cute little eyes have yet to open.
Most appalling is this Adaptive Nursing Puppy Killing Plan was Co-Written by the Plaintiff!! Yes, that is correct the Red Wolf Coalition co-wrote the plan to KILL NURSING PUPPIES, stating it was “Cheaper”, “Faster” and the only way to remove (KILL) “Newborn” Litters of Puppies!!
The Red Wolf Coalition is very willing to request your hard earned money (donations) in the name of animal rights, however they have been far less than forthcoming about this previously secretive Nursing Pup Killing Scheme funded by YOUR tax dollars!
Congressman Walter Jones must stop funneling our hard earned tax dollars into such a non-transparent Not for Profit, whom raises money only after deciding to selectively inform their donors!

Mark is a very keen Bonsai tree grower – and has a great interest in anything ‘bonsai’; he has somewhere around 40 trees which he cares for himself.

The production of foie gras is staggeringly cruel. In addition to the appalling suffering inflicted by force-feeding, during this period the animals are trapped in tiny, barren cages.
The temporary closure of France’s foie gras farms is due to end on 16th May.
