25/4/18 – Today we have been working with Slavica in Serbia regarding 2 Griffon Vultures which appear to have been kidnapped (or birdnapped ?) in Iraq after they had flown more than 2,500km from a wildlife centre in Serbia. One of the birds was fully ringed by a specialist in Serbia; and so via the data on the rings it carries, be traced back to Serbia. The other bird is un ringed, but not all birds from Serbia were ringed at the time, and it is possible that this second bird ‘paired up’ with the ringed bird for migration, arriving in Iraq.
The really sad part about all this is that it is expected that the birds may have been kidnapped for falconry purposes; as a ransom was requested by telephone. But vultures are never used in falconry; as they only eat from dead and decaying corpses already on the ground. Falconry does not work in the same way; Wherever the birds are located; they are effectively the property of the Serbian state. If they are injured in Iraq for example, then they can be sorted by a specialist within Iraq but then they have to be released back into the wild if and when they recover.
Here is the link to the letter (draft only – without headers) which has been sent to Iraq, UK and USA embassies in Iraq, asking for involvement in this case. The Iraq embassy in Serbia has also been asked to take action.
In the following pictures you can see the original time in Serbia when the bird was taken and ringed by specialist ornithologists. The ring numbers which were fitted can be clearly seen to show that the bird originated and is recorded as being Serbian origin.
It is hoped that these pictures can be used to help identify the bird in Iraq if it is captured back from the people asking for a ransom.

Vegan Faces
We have had a really nice e mail from (Mum) Lynette telling us that the family have enjoyed and tried a few of the Vegan dishes that we have covered on the site.
Lynette says to us:
“My family is making an attempt to go vegan, and we thought your page was really cool. My son’s have been spending quite a bit of their computer time looking at vegan recipes and tips for people trying to adapt- they mentioned how much they enjoyed your page, and I thought you’d like to hear!”
We sure do – that is what the site needs, some positive feedback about some of our posts.
Both Alex and James (Lynette’s boys) have teamed up and sent us another great link which we have said we will share on the site; form them to us to you ! – It is about some really cool vegan recipes that Alex and James have found and are currently checking out.
Here you can see and make a whole range of great vegan food – the soup list looks really great – we need to try those.
Lynette and the boys tried the Banana Berry Breakfast smoothie at the weekend and the reports back are that “it was great” !

Armed men stretch down one dog after another.
These are footage taken last week in the Moroccan city of Agadir. The reason for the shooting of the dogs is an upcoming visit from the FIFA, where the city should deliver a good picture. Namely, Morocco wants the 2026 World Cup to be held in the North African country.
The country has to prevail against its competitors Canada, Mexico and the USA. In the past, Morocco had already applied four times without success.
The killing of stray dogs in the run-up to such a spectacular football tournament had already caused massive horror internationally in the run-up to the European Championship in Ukraine in the Ukraine.
The protest was so strong that UEFA intervened and declared that it had never called for animals to be killed for the European Championship. “We respect the dignity of the animals and will continue to appeal to the authorities to do the same,” it said in a statement. The European Football Association donated a large sum to an initiative that castrates the animals and suspends them again. The Ukrainian government reacted to the many negative headlines back then. It imposed a killing ban and threatened with harsh penalties for animal abusers.
Whether Morocco really does a favor with killing the street dogs remains more than questionable. Especially since the competitors USA (1994) and Mexico (1970 and 1986) are given better chances to win anyway because of their experience in conducting such tournaments – and Canada, even if it is not considered an outstanding football nation, after all, on a broad infrastructure modern and World Cup-compatible sports facilities.
Nevertheless, I would like to categorize this criminal behavior of the Moroccans as follows: Morocco is a poor country and therefore cannot compete with the other competitors, USA, Mexico and Canada.
I do not mean that this country does not have the necessary infrastructure to run for office to win for the World Cup 26.
I mean, only rich countries have a chance to get to the top of the game with corruption and bribes. The visit from FIFA causes a massacre for the animals, but that will not help if Morocco would eliminate even all the strays of the country.
Because for FIFA is not crucial, how many millions of strays has the country but how many millions of dollars the country can pay for bribes, in order to get the first place for World Cup 2026!

Tell Castle’s Bears to End Demeaning Tricks and Release Bears to Sanctuaries
Bears don’t ride bicycles, do handstands, or balance on balls in nature.
Yet Castle’s Bears dresses them in ridiculous costumes, muzzles them, yanks them around on leashes, and forces them to perform demeaning and possibly painful tricks for many Shrine circuses.
Instead of roaming, swimming, and foraging in the wild, the bears at Castle’s Bears are forced to perform demeaning tricks such as riding bicycles, doing handstands, and balancing on balls.
Last year, one was filmed urinating in apparent distress when forced to walk on his or her front legs.
Please join us in urging Castle’s Bears to release the bears to reputable sanctuaries.

Animal experiments are often justified by claiming that they were used to develop new medicines for incurable diseases.
In fact, animal experiments usually have no practical reference.
For example, penicillin is well tolerated by humans but harmful to guinea pigs.
Arsenic is deadly to humans, not to sheep!
Asbestos causes cancer in humans, but not in rats!
So: What works for the animal does not work for humans.
Cancer is the most telling example and the strongest evidence of failure of animal studies to fight cancer.
I quote a well-known and characteristic statement of Dr. Richard Klausner, Director of the American National Cancer Institute, USA:
“The history of cancer research is the story of how we treat cancer in mice. For decades we have been treating cancer in mice, but for humans does not work. We could even say that the so-called “animal models” we have produced in the laboratories to fight cancer have proved to be scientific bankruptcy. “
Animal experiments are not carried out for the benefit of man, but because influential interest groups benefit from it.
In particular, there is a whole industry in animal experiments that can benefit greatly from animal experiments: the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, contract laboratories, laboratory animal dealers, companies supplying accessories, all of which have great interest in maintaining animal experiments. Politics and the media are pulled through by this network.
But primarily the lion’s share of profit make the so-called laboratory “researchers”.
They are most interested in continuing animal testing.
For these, the quality of the research is not measured by how many people could be helped, but by the number of publications in prestigious journals. This also depends on the amount of research funding.
Not for the benefit of man.
The German Research Foundation (DFG), which largely funds animal experiments in the area of higher education, received a budget of just under 2.7 billion euros from the state treasury in 2013, that means: from the taxpayer
Today, this budget is higher.
The four million euros of state support for non-animal research are alms in comparison.
In Germany, and according to the 2016 statistics, 2,854,586 experimental animals were tortured unnecessarily (and many were tortured by their lives).
This is the official statistic number.
It does not include how many animals die when transported to laboratories, how many die during reproduction, which is always done under criminal conditions, how many are “unnecessarily” manufactured and are not needed, which is why they are killed. The “dark” number reaches 4 million.
Finally, I should emphasize that the end of animal experiments does not mean the end of scientific research.
On the contrary, without animal experiments, medical research would be far ahead, because the inadequate and incorrect results that result from them inhibit the progress of research.
I think animal testing and ethical medicine and science are mutually exclusive.
Respect and reverence for life must be the highest commandment of human and especially medical trade.
Only in this way can progress in medicine be achieved.
